California Native Plants, Cacti, and Succulents

Marinna Wagner Landscape Designs

Marinna Wagner Landscape Designs offers consulting on a wide range of landscape projects. Marinna is experienced in working with California native vegetation and ecological processes within the creosote bush scrub, Joshua tree woodland, southern oak woodland, chaparral, coastal sage scrub, and associated plant communities. In addition to working with local plant species, she specializes in water-wise landscapes, cacti and succulents, firescaping, and pollinator habitats.

Marinna was awarded a masters of Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly, Pomona, CA in June 2018. She worked collaboratively with Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave Desert Land Trust to monitor eight restoration sites with varying methods. Her thesis is called Factors Influencing Revegetation Efforts in the Mojave Desert: Field Studies and Meta-Analysis of the Morongo Basin and Joshua Tree National Park. The document is available for download through ResearchGate and Proquest. She was awarded the Robert Lee Graduate Student Research Grant from the Joshua Tree National Park Association in 2016 and the 2018 American Society of Landscape Architecture Student Award of Excellence in the Research Category.

In the Mojave Desert, Marinna worked as nursery technician at the Mojave Desert Land Trust (MDLT) Native Plant Restoration Nursery for over two years. At MDLT, she propagated native plants for restoration projects, maintained the herbarium and conservation seed bank, and was part of the team that designed the demonstration garden. Other projects in the desert region have included climate change monitoring, vegetation surveys, seed collecting, and native plant education and research.
